Behind the Scenes

The Process Behind Recent/Current Projects

Windy Day

October 25, 2018

Sometimes ideas just come to me, and for some reason one night I had the image of a young woman traveling along a country road to visit a friend on a windy autumn day. I tend to do at least one autumn themed painting each year, so this was this year's tribute to my favourite season!

Glass House

August 02, 2018

I had a number of ideas come into my head a few months ago, and one by one I've been completing them. Each one challenges and pushes me to do things I didn't think I could do, and this might be the most complicated piece I've ever attempted. Click the button below to see my process.

Mother's Day 2018

May 28, 2018

I wanted to continue my theme from last year and create another mermaid mother & daughter scene for my Mother's Day card. The hot, sunny weather we've been having recently inspired a beach scene, which changed pretty dramatically from my first sketch. Click the button below to see the process!

Sailing on Starlight

December 29, 2017

This painting was another "dream" that I wanted to capture. While the composition stayed pretty much the same from the beginning, there were several challenges that were exciting for me to tackle, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Wood Sprite

December 02, 2017

I've been working on a new series of paintings based on several ideas I've had in my head for a while. None of them have a specific story attached to them, but the impetus is usually a feeling or an image that I want to convey. This painting's idea: a tree being a portal to another world. It had a few incarnations before I arrived at the final image, so click to see the earlier version and how it evolved!

Folktale

November 10, 2017

I had a dream in January... which resulted in a sketch... which then got left on the shelf when I couldn't quite get it right. I finally picked it up again in November, and this time it just flowed onto the page. Click the button below to read the story and learn more about my process!

Halloween 2017

October 16, 2017

Autumn is perhaps my favorite season, and I especially love the holidays that occur during this time. The colors of the autumn leaves and the nippy weather are also so inspiring, and I try to do at least one Halloween themed piece or greeting card each year, though other commitments sometimes prevent me from finishing them in time for the actual holiday. This year, I was successful! Click the button below to see some old Halloween art and see the process behind the newest addition to my collection!
